SEMC Release “Conflict Sensitive journalism guidebook“

The studies & Economic Media Center (SEMC) released , in cooperation with IREX and IMS , the guidebook of Conflict Sensitive journalism This book, the first of its kind ever in Yemen, serves as a guide for Yemeni media professionals as well as a highly significant document that will go a long way in boosting their reporting skills in such a way that meets the standards of conflict sensitive journalism. Mustafa Nasr, the chairman of SEMC , stressed the great effort preceded the issuance of this guidebook which is a compendium on a number of workshops SEMC had conducted across Yemeni governorates over the past couple of years. “The publication of this guide comes on SEMC’s belief of the importance of this type of journalism, which is practiced during conflict, and it’s also represent a significant document that will go a long way in boosting their reporting skills in such a way that meets the standards of conflict sensitive journalism” Nasr added . This Guidebook comes after issuing a survey conducted on the Yemeni media coverage during conflicts in Yemen, where the results showed weak talk about peace in the Yemeni media and the dominance of inflammatory language. And that 70% of the programs and news talk about military battles only with a weak handling of humanitarian stories.
