SEMC launched a project to build the capacity of youth and women for peace in Yemen. The project was launched today in Taiz.

The program aims to build the capacity of 100 youth and women to prepare local response and development plans and to train them on mobilization and advocacy skills. The project covers the districts of Al-Qahira and Al-Ma’afer in Taiz governorate, and Saira and Dar Sa’ad in Aden Governorate.

At the opening session of the first training workshop in Al-Qahira District, The media and public officer relation Hamdi Rassam  said that the creation of local youth and women development committees and building the capacity of trainees to prepare emergency response plans will enhance community participation and reestablish the confidence that has been weakened by the war.

Rassam pointed out that the program will enhance the participation of youth and women at the local level, and that it will enable them to play positive roles in building peace. The program targets all components through the creation of effective channels of communication to enhance confidence among the various community components. It seeks to establish genuine participation of youth through the implementation of community-based initiatives in response to urgent needs.

under the theme “Together for Development and Community Participation,” the program involves the creation of community forums that will allow local communities to report on their needs and issues and seek solutions for them. The program will also supervise implementation of local emergency response initiatives by local development committees.

The program has analyzed the local environment in the four target districts economically, culturally and socially. This initial step will form a solid ground upon which members of the local development committees will prepare the local development plans.
