World Press Freedom Day
To all the free world
On this day (May 3), celebrated by journalists around the world, World Press Freedom Day, Yemeni journalists face very tragic situations as they struggle to convey the information or express their opinions and attitudes.
Journalists face death sentences, such as the Yemeni journalist Yahya Abdul-Raqeeb Al-Jubeihi, while 18 others have been held in Houthi group’s prisons since tow Years which is classified as the second group in the world threatening the journalists’ lives after ISIS organization, in addition to the lack of information about the abducted journalist by Al-Qaeda since two years ago.
Unfortunately, the priority of Yemeni journalists is no longer to raise the free expression ceiling and support the media outlets freedom, its pluralism and independence, or to demand the right to information, but the most important demand now is to save their lives from death threatening them every moment. The journalism and writings in social media became a charge deserving a prosecution and punishment.
On this day, we must remember the Yemeni journalists who lost their lives while practicing the journalism and celebrate them as heroes who have given their lives for free speech.
We call on journalists in the world and local and international organizations concerned with free expression and human rights to line with Yemeni journalists for bringing down the unjust sentences, the prompt release of abducted journalists, ending the torture and inhuman treatment in prisons, revealing the assassinations circumstances of Yemeni journalists. We also call on them to support all efforts that would mitigate the risks and challenges faced by journalists in Yemen.
With all the good people around the world, we announce the launch of a large campaign of solidarity with the journalist sentenced to death Yahya Al-Jubaiehi and his abducted colleagues, some of whom have been abducted for more than 2 Years, and subjected to the constant torture.
