Marib: Photojournalist Killed and Another Injured
On April 26, 2025, photojournalist and TV director Musab Abdelhafiz Al-Hattami was killed, and his brother, photographer Sohaib Al-Hattami, was injured following a drone attack carried out by the Houthi group (Ansar Allah) in Marib Governorate, eastern Yemen.
According to information obtained by the Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen, the two photographers were on their way to the frontlines to document and cover ongoing events related to the armed conflict, as part of a media mission aimed at producing reports and documentary materials on the developments of the war.
The sudden targeting led to the immediate death of Musab Al-Hattami and varying injuries to his brother.
This incident represents a troubling continuation of the systematic violations against journalists and media professionals in Yemen, who often work in highly dangerous environments. Since the outbreak of the war in 2015, 54 journalists and media workers have lost their lives while performing their duties, amid a lack of accountability and sufficient protection for those in this vital sector.
