Training Humanitarian Organizations in Hadramout on Humanitarian Journalism

A training workshop on human journalism was conducted within the emergency response project of the Yemeni media, which is implemented by the French Agency for Media Development (CFI) in cooperation with the Studies and Economic Media Center (SEMC).

The workshop was financed by the European Union.

At the conclusion of the six-day online workshop, which targeted 10 liaison officers in organizations working in the humanitarian field in Hadramout, Mohamed Ismail, Executive Director of SEMC, stated that the training was part of a program that aimed at empowering journalists and organizations working in the humanitarian field.

He explained that such training workshops would actively contribute to the humanitarian efforts and the peace process in Yemen.

For his part, Muhammad Bajaber, a participant who works a liaison officer at the Coalition of Goodness, stated: “This workshop is extremely important.

It highlights the humanitarian situation in Yemen, and enables us to learn about the techniques of identifying humanitarian stories, methods and ethics of such stories, and methods and tools for communicating with the media in exchanging and providing humanitarian information.“
Bagaber underscored the importance of media mobilization for humanitarian issues and stories, and the complementary roles of organizations and the media in transmitting them, indicating that the workshop provided him with skills and methods that contributed to achieving those aims.
For her part, Khawla Husain, one of the participants, said that the training workshop was a practical step towards activating the partnership between civil society organizations and the media to support and serve humanitarian issues.
