In partnership with Search for Common Ground, the Studies and Economic Media Center inaugurated the Curriculum Youth Summits to be conducted in nine targeted governorates at the rate of two sessions per governorate (Sana’a, Aden, Hadhramout, Lahj, Taiz, Al-Hodeidah, Raymah, Mareb, Amran, and Ibb. The discussion sessions come within the frame of The Team drama show project, second phase.

In the inauguration session of the first Curriculum Youth Summit held in Sana’a, Mr. Mustafa Nasr, SEMC Director, indicated that the objective behind these sessions is to reflect on the main issues our society deals with at this time, particularly the enforcement of law, equal citizenship, and gender issues. He maintained that the outputs of these sessions will feed into the dramatic stories that will be the subject matter of a radio and TV show called The Team, second phase with the objective of raising awareness and enhancing social cohesion.

Participants in the first CYS, facilitated by Mr. Mohammed Farhan, reflected on the main roles played by the Yemeni women and the obstacles that hinder effective engagement and partnership of women in the political, economic and social life.

Participants have also reviewed various examples of the weak enforcement of the rule of law and the absence of equal citizenship and discrimination based on color, sex, political affiliation, social class, ..etc. According to participants, the weak official institutions compared to the influential power groups and the spread of bribery and favoritism phenomena adds insult to injury.

It is worth to note that SEMC is a non-profitable civil society organization, aiming at qualification, promoting awareness on economic issues, enhancing transparency and the participation of people, particularly youth and women, in the decision making process. Achieving a professional media is SEMC long run objective.
