SEMC and Economic Reforms Task Force organize a workshop about legislative reforms

Studies & Economic Media Center (SEMC) and Economic Reforms Task Force organized a workshop in Tunisia about legislative reforms. The workshop has been held in cooperation with Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and Arabic Center for Institutions Administration in Tunisia.

Head of Economic Reforms Task Force in Yemen, Mr. Ahmed Bazara’ah, said that the workshop will evaluate all what have been done during last two years regards the Economic Reforms Vision, which prepared by ERTF in 2012. The evaluation will include what have been included in National Dialogue outputs and the transitional program of Government of National Reconciliation.

Bazara’ah pointed out that the task force will work to develop the vision through focusing on many priorities in the upcoming period, especially the constitutional principles that economic reforms’ process required from the perspective of the private sector.

From his side, Mustafa Nasr, SEMC Chairman, said that the workshop aims to establish appropriate legislative structure for economic reforms in Yemen, starting with constitution and required laws for reforms process that Yemen development needed.

In the opening Ceremony of the workshop, Program Director for Middle East and North Africa in CIPE, Mr. Abdulwahab Al-Kebsi, confirmed on the importance of the workshop that gathering group of the most important businessmen and experts in Yemen. he also pointed out to the role of CIPE in supporting the economic reforms in Yemen.

During the workshop, participants has determined 6 priorities for the upcoming period included; financial reforms of the country, participation in the regions law, improve work environment, youth employment, rehabilitation and capacity building of civil society organizations, private-sector, provision of energy from its various sources.

This workshop is one of the activities of Enhancing Private Sector Voices in Yemen project, which implemented by three civil socity organizations in Yemen which are; Studies & Economic Media Center, Political Development Forum, Human Rights Information & Training Center (HRITC) in cooperation with Center for International Private Enterprise(CIPE).

The workshop included discussion of constitutional text for the economic aspect and advocacy campaign which will be implemented by the Task Force to integrate economic reforms in Yemen’s new constitution.

SEMC is non-profit civil society organization working qualification , awareness of economic issues, enhancing the transparency and the good governance, social participation in decision-making, and creating professional media.
