The phenomenon of carrying weapons and drug trade, which appeared after the youth revolution in 2011, is the most important challenge of the rule of law, according to the viewpoint of youth.

In the roundtable discussion about “The rule of law, citizenship and equality” which organized by Studies & Economic Media Center (SEMC) in cooperation with Search for Common Ground organization, youth has reviewed the effects of absence the rule of law which is clear through weakness of the state apparatus in front of the power force in the community such as; Sheikhs, Military and others powers.

Youth pointed out to the increasing of poverty percentage and unemployment among the graduates which lead them to work in drugs and weapons trade or joining to the armed gangs, in addition to the their feelings of absence of equal citizenship, and social discrimination on the basis of color or sex or political and social affiliation.

This discussion roundtable with youth in Taiz governorate comes within series of roundtables which is implementing by SEMC in 9 governorates (Sana’a, Aden, Hadhrmout, Lahj, Taiz, Hodaidah, Raimah, Marib, Amran, and Ibb)

SEMC Chairman, Mr. Mustafa Nasr, clarified in press statement that this discussion aims to focus on main issues that are challenging people living in Taiz, especially in the weakness of the rule of law and weak security conditions which leads to the presence of armed gangs anddrugs dealers where they used children in their illegal businesses. He pointed out to those issues will be transferred to a dramatic series which will be introduced to the Yemeni audience in the second season of The Team, which aim to raise awareness of community in such issues.

During the roundtable, which facilitated by Mr. Mohammed Abdulfatah, many issues were discussed such as; the main roles of women in the society, and the obstacles that face her in the political, economic and social life.

SEMC is non-profit civil society organization working qualification , awareness of economic issues, enhancing the transparency and the good governance, social participation in decision-making, and creating professional media.
