SEMC discusses obstacles of the rule of law and equal citizenship with Youth in Ibb

Studies & Economic Media Center (SEMC) in cooperation with Search for Common Ground organized a discussion roundtable in Ibb within the second phase of The Team project, which targeted 9 governorates (Sana’a, Aden, Hadhrmout, Lahj, Taiz, Hodaidah, Raimah, Marib, Amran, and Ibb).

Studies & Economic Media Center (SEMC) in cooperation with Search for Common Ground organized a discussion roundtable in Ibb within the second phase of The Team project, which targeted 9 governorates (Sana’a, Aden, Hadhrmout, Lahj, Taiz, Hodaidah, Raimah, Marib, Amran, and Ibb).

SEMC Chairman, Mr. Mustafa Nasr, clarified in the opening ceremony that this roundtable aims to focus on main issues that are challenging people living in Ibb, especially within weakness of the rule of law. Mr. Nasr added that weakness of the rule of law enable influential people to build illegal private prisons, and antiquities trade and burglary on people become their source of livelihood.

Mr. Nasr added that this problem has caused to many other problems such as; emergence of armed gangs and bandits, Endowments Lands looters, absence of women’s rights. He clarified that all issues will be treated in a dramatic style and will be introduced to the Yemeni audience in the second season of The Team, which aim to raise awareness of community in such issues.

During the discussion, which facilitated by Mr. Ahmed Alyoufrusy, many issues were discussed such as; the main roles of women in the society, and the obstacles that face her in the political, economic and social life.

The participants have reviewed the manifestation of the rule of law weakness through financial and administrative corruption issues in the governorate, smuggling antiquities, and emergence of private prisons of influential people which led to lack of sense of citizenship.

This roundtable is one of The Team project activities, which targeted 32 young people in each of the ninth governorates in two separate group.

SEMC is non-profit civil society organization working qualification , awareness of economic issues, enhancing the transparency and the good governance, social participation in decision-making, and creating professional media.
