SEMC trains local leaders on integrating youth & women priorities in the local policy in Al-Mukala distract.

Studies & Economic Media Center (SEMC) implemented in cooperation with Democratic Youth Association and funded by funded by European Delegation in Yemen, a training workshop for local leaders in Al-Mukala distract , Hadramout governorate on ” integrating youth and women priorities in the public policy at local level “.

Mr. Mustafa Nassr, Chairman of SEMC, clarified in the opening ceremony that the training workshop comes within the project the voices of youth & women which implemented by SEMC and involves ten distracts in five governorates. The project aims to enhance the role of local actors and local leaders in preparing local plans and monitoring its implementation at the local level.

Mr. Mustafa pointed out to the success stories of the project in the targeted distracts, in which the youth adopted some priority issues and advocated them at the local authorities and executive administrations. Mr. Nassr said That during the coming phase, the distracts must be given all the authorities to play its role in serving the people.

From his part, Mr. Mohammed Al-Amoodi, undersecretary of Hadramout governorate said that Yemen is stepping to federalism and needs for reconstruction from the first component which is distract and to above. Mr. Mohammed pointed out to the importance of rehabilitating leaders able to make plans and strategies that meets youth & women priorities in the distract.

Mr. Al-Amoodi added ” in past we worked and made plans , but the central authority make another plans and aims which is totally different from what we suffer in the distract.

Mr. Saleem Saleh, manager of Al-Mukalla distract said , ” if we spend the sources that collected from the distract for the distract itself , the revenues will increased to three Billion YR instead of the current 600 million YR and we can make the infrastructure in two years instead of ten years according to the centralization and its obstacles.

Mr. saleh, also pointed out to the unemployment among youth , which is one of the main challenges in Mukalla distract, capital of Hadramaut, and a lot of people in the distract need for building their the capacity and rehabilitation. He also pointed out to the suffering from centralization in decision-making and financial procedures during the last stage.

This training, in which Mr.Labeeb Shaif policies consultant is the trainer, comes within the project of youth and women voices that aims to enhance the communication between the social activists of youth , women, civil society organizations and local council members at the local level to promote decentralization and local governance and meet the priorities and needs of youth and women.

The project of Youth & Women Voices is implemented by SEMC in cooperation with European Delegation in Yemen, and targeted 5 governorates. SEMC is a nonprofit organization that works in promoting transparency and good governance and awareness of economic issues, in addition to citizen’s participation in decision making.
