A statement of human rights organizations to call on the international community to step up its efforts to release the journalist Younis Abdul-Salam who is in a poor health condition.

We, the local civil society organizations concerned with defending freedom of opinion and expression, demand the Houthi group to promptly release the journalist Younis Abdul-Salam, who was arrested in early August 2021 from a street in the capital Sana’a, by the Houthi Security and Intelligence Service, while leaving his home at night in a poor health condition.
The journalist Younis Abdel Salam is in a bad psychological condition, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, which increased our concern about worsening his psychological depression state if his release delayed, as he used to visit a psychiatric hospital prior to his arrest.
We also hold the Houthi group responsible for what may occur to the journalist Younis Abdul-Salam in detention because of his poor health and psychological state, which can’t afford prison, cruel treatment and torture, as evidenced by the medical reports of one of the hospitals he used to visit.
We, the undersigned organizations, call on the international community and organizations concerned with freedom of opinion and expression to step up their efforts to release the journalist Younis Abdel Salam, to protect Yemeni male and female journalists and immediately release all detainees.
