Youth Supporting Center (YSC) – Hodeida Governorate Branch Demanding General Attorney, Interior Minister and Hodeida Governor to close the prisons for women in a number of Directorates of Hodeida province for lack of minimum health requirements and absence of the appropriate treatment in prisons, and violation of local and International laws in this regard.

The Center that works within the Studies & Economic Media Center (SEMC), in cooperation with Abu Musa Alashari Association has in a press release appealed to the General Attorney and Interior Minister to close women’s prison in districts of Bait AL-Faqih, Zabaid, Bajel, AlZaidai, that are actually rooms belonging to old women houses named Sjanat, without any requirements like clothing and toiletries, and the absence of provisions for feeding prisoners, and some rooms are closed and there is no ventilation, and the bathrooms are not put up for use.

The Center expressed their surprise of the existence of these prisons in current time and the unjustified silence of the state institutions represented by ministry of interior, general attorney, executive authorities in the governorate and Human Rights Ministry in the time that law prevents the existence of such private prisons and counted crimes do not accept statute of limitations, and the law requires prosecutors to move immediately to those places and prove the case reservation and issue an order to close down and prosecute those who made it.

The Center also demanded Attorney General and Minister of Interior to prevent the detention of any woman without a signed written of legal prosecution; on pre-prepared form stamped by an official, bearing the logo of the prosecutor. In addition, the center demanded prevention of the expansion of solitary reserve for women because there is no fear that they will be going out to tamper with evidence or influence the witnesses, and do not have the necessary strength to influence them.

The Center also called the local authority in Hodeida and the Minister of Interior to establish reformatories for women instead of these prisons working on refinement of behavior and rehabilitation of women so that they become an actor in the community. In addition, ensuring that the prisoner has the right to be reformed and rehabilitated and obtain ongoing training and proper health care .

Youth Supporting Center – Hodeida Branch is one of the main Centers established within the Voices of Youth & Women Project that implemented by Studies & Economic Media Center in Cooperation with European Delegation In Sana’a and in partnership with four organizations , one of these organizations is abu Musa Alashari Association in Hodeida.
