SEMC trains journalists on the right to access information

In cooperation with the American Embassy, SEMC is organizing a training workshop on “Mechanisms of Access to Information and Legal Protection of Journalists”, which is targeting journalists of independent newspapers and news websites.

In cooperation with the American Embassy, SEMC is organizing a training workshop on “Mechanisms of Access to Information and Legal Protection of Journalists”, which is targeting journalists of independent newspapers and news websites.

In the opening ceremony, SEMC’s Chairman Mustafa Nasr stated that this workshop is aiming towards journalists’ acquisition of proper mechanisms and skills of acquiring information, based on the right of access to information’s law that was endorsed lately, in addition to avoiding legal precautions during journalistic writing.

This workshop, a part of “Improving Independent Journalism” project which is in cooperation with the American Embassy; aims at qualifying journalists of 5 governorates (Sana’a, Aden, Hodeidah, Hadramout and Taiz).

Mr. Nasr, during his speech, pointed out to the importance of implementing the law by journalists in order to enhance credibility and trust of independent media by the public, emphasizing on the vital role of civil society organizations, including SEMC, demanding endorsement of the right to access information’s law which successfully occurred on July 2012.

Trainer of this workshop is MP AbdulMu’ez Dabwan, Executive Manager of “Parliamentarians against Corruption” organization. He will be training participants for a period of 3 days.

SEMC (Studies and Economic Media Center) is a civil society organization that works in qualifying, enhancing sensibility of economic issues, transparency and good governance, in addition to working towards promoting professional media.
