Sana’a, October 29th – In cooperation with the U.S Embassy, SEMC (Studies and Economic Media Center) implemented a workshop on human rights and independent media.


Deputy of Information Ministry, Mr. Yunus Hazza emphasized that no one can speak about freedom of speech and creativity in case there is a threat to human life and the violation of rights, so building the capacity of journalists on human rights is of a big significance.


He explained at the opening ceremony that no economy will develop without securing dignity and freedom for its citizens, pointing to the importance of the activities carried out by SEMC to develop journalists skills in various media fields.


SEMC Chairman, Mr. Mustafa Nasr said that this workshop, which included more than 25 representatives of independent media in Yemen, aimed to provide journalists with skills to help them dealing with human rights issues from an independent media view. He also pointed to the importance of personal security procedures for journalists as well as explaining the means and methods of security with regard to journalists’ safety.


The aim of this workshop comes within institutional and professional economic journalism development project implemented by the SEMC in collaboration with the US Embassy, and it is a part of the second phase of the project. This project targets 175 male and female media individual to build their capacity professionally in media fields. It comes after the first phase which targeted more than 325 male and female of independent media individuals.
