Sanaa, December 9 – In cooperation with the U.S Embassy, SEMC (Studies & Economic Media Center) implemented a training course on Internet search and source verification techniques for Yemeni media.

In the opening ceremony, SEMC Chairman Mr. Mustafa Nasr clarified that this training course is among many workshops and courses implemented by the center, which aim to enhance and develop media personnel abilities which in turn generally contributes in developing journalism in Yemen, especially independent journalism. He emphasized on the importance of such courses that develop new skills and update old ones, leading to the progress of journalistic work.

He also pointed out that journalism is a renewed industry which has to be kept up with continuously, especially with presence of social media that is now seriously competing with journalistic work, turning a lot of citizens into reporters who convey information and go to locations to documents incidents with pictures, which in turn challenges journalists to prove themselves as worthy. He clarified that journalists today need to obtain tools to distinguish themselves from unprofessional or citizen-journalists, and this will happen only by obtaining tools of source and information verification.
