SEMC holds course on TV reporting skills in Turbah

SEMC holds course on TV reporting skills in Turbah A training course on TV reporting techniques was held in the city of Al-Turbah, Taiz governorate, drawing in as many as 13 journalists. The function, organized by SEMC, is aimed at building the capacities of journalists and activists in the sphere of TV reporting, which spans a wide range of topics, including report writing, field filming, audiotaping, live coverage of events , field interview direction skills, and journalists’ and information security. The spillover of fighting into vast swaths of rural territory in Taiz has prompted citizen journalists to act as a key source of information across the governorate. This made imperative to provide these journalists with the necessary skills and techniques to help them cover events professionally. “The course has provided us with lots of much-needed information in the field of reporting and safety procedures, thus enabling us to produce TV reportages with our modest potentials, including by using smart phones for news coverage,” said one trainee Ruqiya Al-Thabhani. Sadeq Al-Jaberi, another participant, said the function was duly held in a rural area rarely targeted by the media outfits concerned with such kind of courses. Citizen journalists have become capable of practicing journalism, and presenting televised reports despite the lack of the necessary means, which we deemed an obstacle to the practice of journalism. The seven-day workshop is meant to train participants in preparing televised reports, said trainer Yassin Al-Zikri, who kept trainees company during the course. Zikri described the function as qualitative, given that it is being held in a rural area. The course, which is in keeping with SEMC’s objective of “creating free and professional media”, was held in association with IMI. It included lectures and practical exercises, with participants doing televised reports and initiating a nucleus media network for Al-Turbah city and its environs. SEMC Chairman, Mustafa Nassr, said the event comes as part of boosting citizen journalism, adding that it is meant to enhance the free flow of information by fostering journalist and information security. Mufid Al-Huwaish, the IMI manager, said the course is a real training opportunity for youths in a district that has long been suffering from lack of training. SEMC is a high-profile NGO specializing in training in economic and media fields, and working towards the enhancement of transparency, good governance, and public engagement in decision-making, the creation of professional and free media, and the economic empowerment of youth and women.
