SEMC reveals aid sold on black market, urges payment of salaries

The Studies and Economic Media Center (SEMC) has revealed that the humanitarian assistance offered to Yemenis is being sold on the black market as is the case with oil products sold at exorbitant prices. The Center’s Economic Indicators report for October 2016 deals with the political, economic, security , health and humanitarian situation as well as basic public services such as basic commodity prices, the availability of basic services such as water, electricity, oil products and health services. It sheds the light on the scandal of selling humanitarian aid on the black market on the part of influential. The report, which covers eight target governorates-Sana’a, Taiz, Aden, Hodeida, Mareb, Dhamar, Dhalea and Hadramout, also touches upon the rate of foreign currencies against the Yemeni rial, in addition to Yemeni port traffic. The Center urged the payment of the salaries of government employees numbering more than 1.2 million, warning that any payment delay would further worsen famine and malnutrition. The report is released by SEMC on a monthly basis.
