Update: On September 4, 2016, the President’s Office issued written instructions to the acting Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, requesting that the Ministry cease the registration and/or renewal of registration of any civil society organizations (CSOs). The instructions also directed the Ministry to prepare a report on the legal status of existing Yemeni organizations. It is unclear whether the instructions will continue to be operative following the formation of a new government in Sanaa in late November 2016.
