The Studies and Economic Media Center (SEMC) today, Saturday, launched the second training workshop under the program supporting the sustainability of media institutions in Yemen. The workshop, titled “Audience Analysis and Digital Expansion Strategies for Independent Media Outlets,” is organized in partnership with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
The workshop, held through four consecutive online training sessions with the participation of 22 male and female journalists representing 22 independent media outlets across eight Yemeni governorates, aims to enable participants to enhance their ability to understand the behavior of their digital audiences and design expansion plans based on accurate data and professional approaches.
The workshop includes practical training modules that help media outlets transform audience data into actionable insights within newsrooms, through analyzing engagement patterns, designing specialized content plans, and leveraging modern digital expansion tools built on innovation, analytics, and artificial intelligence.
The SEMC’s Executive Manager, Mohammed Esmail, affirmed that this workshop comes as part of the SEMC’s efforts to strengthen the capacities of media outlets in the areas of digital transformation and modern media production. He stressed that understanding the audience has become an essential requirement for the growth of media institutions in today’s digital environment.
Esmail added that possessing data analysis tools enables newsrooms to make more accurate and effective editorial decisions, while enhancing the ability of media institutions to expand their presence, increase their impact, and ensure both professional and financial sustainability.
For his part, the workshop trainer and CEO of the Journalism and AI Network in the Middle East and North Africa, Abdullatif Haj Mohammed, explained that the workshop will address the rapid transformations in the digital landscape and how to responsibly utilize modern tools, such as AI, to support quality, analysis, and innovation. It will also explore how to build a more informed relationship between journalists and technology, and between the profession and algorithms, contributing to a Yemeni journalism better equipped to keep pace with digital shifts.
It is worth noting that the SEMC is a civil society organization that works toward a successful and transparent Yemeni economy by raising awareness of economic and development issues, promoting transparency and good governance, and supporting the creation of professional and high-quality media.
